Chairpersons Welcome
The Bannow and Rathangan show celebrates its 72nd show on the 13th July at Killag, Duncormick, Co. Wexford. The show started in Littlegraigue on the lands of the late John Joe Furlong in 1949.The Show has always been a popular event in the social calendar and in 1972 it found a new home on lands given by The Mc Cutcheon family. From 1974 to 1979 the show was held in Balloughton on the lands of The Scanlon family and it moved to Killag, Duncormick in 1980, which gave the show a new lease of life. Our sincere thanks to James and Veronica White for this wonderful site. It is heartening to see the level of community spirit and community involvement which is a huge testament to the success of the show.
This year we have a host of new competitions and classes. In the sheep area, we have an exhibition of sheep shearing. We are delighted to welcome the Sheep Dog Trials competition for the first time and for the first time ever, there is a spacious dance floor with live music from Olivia Douglas and local artists. We will also have all our usual horse and pony classes, cattle and sheep classes, vintage display, Dog Show, and lots more for everyone to enjoy on show day.
This year we are delighted to host both the Junior and Senior All Ireland Home Cook Championship Semi Final Heat, in The Food Village, alongside Chef Adrian Martin. Contestants will cook their favourite main course meal for the competition and the best of luck to all who are taking part. Join us in our Food Village throughout the day to see these contestants cooking their meals alongside the chefs.
A big thank you to our loyal exhibitors and sponsors who support us so readily. You all help to make our show so successful, and we value your support greatly.
We will have a wonderful showcase of Trade Stands on the field again this year and we greatly appreciate the efforts made by all the businesses who attend our show every year. We wish them continued success in their endeavors.
We have a large volunteer workforce on the day and your help is much appreciated, without it the show would not function. I would also like to thank our hardworking committee who work tirelessly to promote and develop the show. Long may their support continue.
Our motto is ‘A Fun Day Out for All the Family’. We look forward to a great day on 13th July and don’t forget to check out all the free activities for children taking place on the field throughout show day. A full list will be available on the website shortly.
